We moved a gym in an area open directly to our wonderful two story room. (Bought the gym stuff off Craigslist by the way.) It was great for working out, but ruined the space otherwise.

What to do?

I was having a little trouble with this one. I wanted to divide and unite. I didn’t want to wall the room off and limit future uses of the whole open space. But I did want to close the room off visually with the ability to open it completely at whim. I love flexibility.

Yes I wanted to have my cake and eat it too.

Well I couldn’t imagine what to do about my dilemma.

I was stumped.

Then surfing through Craigslist, again, I saw some unusual, used bi-fold doors for sale in an old church building.

My dilemma was solved!

A New Use For Old Doors, Grand Father Clock

The doors weren’t quite tall enough for the opening, so Ben and I went to work.

Like I said, I love flexibility and freedom, and wheels are great for that. So between the wheels and a couple wood blocks we screwed to the bottom of the doors, we had the height we needed for our new room dividers.

The doors just happened to be the perfect width to fit the opening!

But of course that wasn’t good enough for me. I wanted to do something unconventional.

We fastened them to the wall by making a mounting strip, and made a hinged door extension so the doors would be wider than the opening.

Wider than the opening?

Too big for the opening?

Yes!
